School of Healthcare Management
Raising the Bar
Jacqueline Rebideau has been teaching at Colorado Technical University Online for over a year and her commitment to the school's curriculum is exceeded only by her admiration for the men and women she teaches. "The students at Colorado Tech Online are fabulous! Their individual creativity adds a special dimension of excitement to an already dynamic learning environment. Although the work is intense and students have to be self-disciplined, the rewards they enjoy are worth the effort because the quality of education is so high."
Rebideau's own academic history includes a BA from Occidental College where she completed a double major in Mathematics and Economics. She then went to earn her Masters in Economics at the University of Colorado in 2001. Before joining the faculty of Colorado Tech Online she taught at another college in a traditional classroom setting.
"My experience teaching at Colorado Tech Online has been a revelation. I took an online course myself some years back and must admit I didn't particularly like it. But Colorado Tech Online has created something that is truly unique and innovative. It's inspiring to be part of itfor me as well as the students."
"First, I'm very impressed with the materials available to students in all of the classes I teachmathematics, economics and healthcare management. These are all complex subjects but the textbooks we use are so well written students can absorb most of the information on their own. That means we can use our class time for a whole other level of education."
"Then too, the Colorado Tech Online educational format is incredibly effective. We present students with a series of scenarios based on real life situations that allow them to apply their academic learning to reality-based problems as they're learning the material. The scenario concept is so interactive that students just seem to lose themselves in the work. Some even come up with new characters that weren't part of the original exercise but are a product of their own imaginations. It just shows how truly involving these courses are. And that not only makes classes more interestingit also makes them more relevant."
No doubt Rebideau's own background helps instill the scenario concept with an extra level of reality. After nine years with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, she recently accepted a position as an Actuarial Associate at Kaiser Permanente, the nation's leading health maintenance organization. As a result, Rebideau offers students the opportunity to learn from someone who has not only "been there," but from someone who remains industry-current.
Her experience, high level of interest in the industry and enthusiasm for her work at Colorado Tech Online are an inspiration to everyone. She is also willing to go the extra mile to give students as much one-on-one attention as possible. "The happy irony of online learning is that although you're not physically near your students, you tend to interact with them more than in a large onsite classroom. I'm always happy to answer questions or clarify the material in any way I can. All in all, Colorado Tech Online students find that they get far more individual attention in virtual classes than they would in a traditional school."
Plus, the flexibility of the program makes this educational venue ideal for people who are already working. Whatever a student's professional goals, moving on to the next level with their present employer, switching over to a different role in the same field or even preparing for a transition into a different industry, classes at Colorado Tech Online are an excellent career choice.
