Meet Rebecca Hollingsworth
Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice
Like a lot of working professionals, Rebecca "Reba" Hollingsworth dreamed of earning a college degree. Throughout the family obligations that result from raising children, a full-time work commitment in the legal profession, and the adversity that can come in every day life, her dream stayed alive. Colorado Tech Online helped make Reba's dream become reality. "I had been entertaining the thought of going back to school for a long time. I needed to find a university in which I could continue to work full-time during the day and attend to my family responsibilities at night. I also wanted to find an institution that is military-friendly, since I am a U.S. Navy veteran and Marine Corps mom. So, when I discovered Colorado Tech Online through an electronic military newsletter I was immediately interested."
Reba enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice degree program offered through Colorado Tech Online. "With my military background and over ten years experience in the legal profession, I knew there were many more practical skills I could learn and apply in order to become more proficient in my profession and expand my career opportunities. After doing some research and speaking with Admissions Advisors, I enrolled through Colorado Tech Online because I was convinced it is an excellent university with outstanding instructors, curriculum and support that would ensure my success as a student. Colorado Tech Online met or exceeded all my expectations!"
The Virtual Campus is one feature offered through Colorado Tech Online that exceeded Reba's expectations. "The online learning environment at Colorado Tech Online brought a wealth of information to my fingertips any time that I needed it. I was able to review the live sessions whenever it was convenient for me and the online library is always open. The Virtual Campus exceeded my highest expectations. It is extremely user friendly, providing all of the tools that I needed to efficiently and effectively connect with other students, instructors the faculty and staff. Everything I needed that was necessary to complete each and every requirement was readily available. I felt I was in control of my learning environment and it was a wonderful experience!"
Reba is currently a legal assistant at a large law firm and is the founder and chairperson of an online military support organization called Mil-SON. She feels the courses she took through Colorado Tech Online have helped her improve professionally. "Taking courses online gave me the skills I needed to found an online support group like Mil-SON. Furthermore, I am more knowledgeable of current issues in the legal profession. I have earned certificates that pertain to specific practical knowledge areas within my field. I have become more proficient in time management and in the use of current software. My research abilities have improved. I am more confident, more self-sufficient and more proficient in my professional life because I have more of the knowledge and skills that are needed in finding answers and solving problems. The knowledge and skills I acquired through my coursework with Colorado Tech Online help me perform my work more efficiently and more effectively."
Reba also feels that earning a degree through Colorado Tech Online has helped her improve personally. "Along with my professional qualifications and experience, earning a degree shows employers that I am committed to my career and dedicated to improving myself. I have enhanced my strengths and addressed my weaknesses. I have progressed from being a divorced, single-mother in my teens with little or no self-esteem to a confident, passionate, motivated, grateful individual who is committed to always seeking new opportunities."
Although Reba is planning to continue working as a legal assistant in the near future, earning a degree through Colorado Tech Online has also inspired her to set new goals. "I am planning on earning a masters degree. I would not have been qualified to be considered for acceptance in a master's degree program without earning a degree through Colorado Tech Online, nor would I even have had the confidence to apply. The professional guidance, dedication and expert advice I received from the staff at Colorado Tech Online, as well as the motivation, cooperation, and support from fellow students have led me to set goals for myself that I once thought were beyond my reach."
