Meet Kenneth Majors
BSBA with a concentration in Information Technology

With 30 years experience in technology-related fields, Kenneth Majors recognizes the value of earning a college degree. "I have learned from experience that it is not uncommon for human resources managers at large companies to select candidates for interviews by matching their qualifications with a list of desired attributes determined by upper management. HR managers usually do not know the candidate or even the details of the position to be filled. Often, one of those attributes is a Bachelor's degree. No matter how much experience candidates may have, the résumés of those who have earned degrees are usually separated from those who have not. Although I am not currently seeking employment, if I choose to do so in the future, a Bachelor's degree has improved my credentials and earning potential."

Kenneth had wanted to earn a Bachelor's degree for a long time, but his career and family responsibilities were a higher priority for him. "When my youngest child moved out, I felt it was the right time for me to look into continuing my education. I researched online universities because as a consultant, I travel a lot. My schedule is very demanding and unpredictable. After looking into several institutions and considering many variables such as accreditation, degree programs, time to completion, course schedules and flexibility, I chose Colorado Tech Online. The 100% online format was the best fit for me."

CTU Alumni: Kenneth MajorsOnline learning may not be the perfect fit for everyone planning to continue their education, but for those of you that may have difficulty attending classes in a traditional setting, I highly recommend Colorado Tech Online.

Colorado Tech Online was not only just a good fit for Kenneth. "It was a great experience! I was impressed by the practical experience of my instructors, many of whom have professional experience in the fields that they teach. The live sessions were very interesting because instructors brought their experience into the virtual classroom, offering real-world examples that demonstrated the value of learning skills and achieving objectives. The online learning environment was much more personal than I thought it would be, with great interaction between students and staff. I felt a sense of teamwork and responsibility to my peers in the group projects that was truly motivating for me. I still keep in touch with some of my classmates. The structure of my academic plan was motivating as well, because the progression of my courses in increments was very goal-oriented. Although the academic standards are high and it was very demanding, Colorado Tech Online was such an exciting, rewarding experience for me that I miss it!"

Kenneth is currently employed with an information technology consulting firm as an Enterprise Consultant for large scale technology projects. In addition to writing and/or responding to requests for proposals, Kenneth also has had some of his work published. "I have recently completed work on a book for Syngress Publishing about Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 and I have recently written and won several proposals. I have been architecting deployments and project plans with Citrix, SharePoint and VMware implementations. I have also worked internally to develop a winning methodology for project management and scope creation on new projects. I have developed and taught classes on this methodology for the sales and technical departments in the various offices of my company. I like what I do, and thanks the Colorado Tech Online, I am better at what I do."

Kenneth found Colorado Tech Online rewarding in many other ways. "I found the courses to be very challenging and rewarding. The project-based assignments were a more realistic method of producing a deliverable. Most of the work I do is project-based and my courses were very relevant to my work and the thought processes involved in my work. I was able to apply my newfound knowledge in my current work projects and the results of that learning produced immediate positive results. My courses through Colorado Tech Online have given me a broader perspective, as well as additional knowledge and tools that have helped me improve in my career. I have used what I have learned during my studies to create better project plans, write better proposals and manage people better. This has made me a more valuable and sought after person within the company."

Kenneth feels that his courses through Colorado Tech Online have benefited him personally as well as professionally. "After completing my degree program, I have a better understanding of how to discuss technology from a business perspective. I can focus conversations on achieving business objectives, putting emphasis on the business reasons for implementing high tech solutions. I also have a better understanding of the management and financial aspects of business. My course in finance has given me a better understanding of managing both business and personal finances. On a personal level, the satisfaction of earning a degree I have wanted for so long has made me feel more complete as an individual. I give thanks to Colorado Tech Online, for an extremely fulfilling experience on many levels!"
