Juggling a demanding job as a Physical Security Specialist with a family, martial arts lessons and music training is no small feat. Add full-time student into the mix, and Wesley Phillips says even he is surprised that he has been able to pull of off a 4.0 grade point average in his program of study. Wesley, who is enrolled in Colorado Tech Online's Bachelor of Business Administration program with a concentration in Information Technology, says putting in 60-hour weeks in his position is not unusual. During an election year, he can expect to be away from home for 10 months out of the year.
Wesley's education was interrupted by service in the Gulf War, and he says if it wasn't for the flexibility of an online university, he would not have been able to continue pursuing his goal of a college degree. He notes, "I have developed a passion for online learning. There are so many pluses to it. Since I travel so much, the convenience is key. With online learning there is much more emphasis on reading, and I have become an avid reader. In my personal and professional life, I'm reading materials more thoroughly and I'm more careful in my research. I have also become a better presenter and project manager."

Opportunity to earn certificates
Wesley says the certificates built into Colorado Tech Online coursework were a strong selling point for him. "Before I considered CTU Online, I was looking at the Project Management Institute for training for myself and some of my colleagues. When I noticed that CTU was affiliated with PMI®, I talked to my supervisor about it, and he agreed that it made sense to enroll in CTU and kill two birds with one stone, so to speak."
"Within the next five years, I would love to become a top manager within a government agency. My goal is to obtain a position where I do not have to travel as much as I do now. Completing my degree can help me with this goal. I would also consider leaving the government for a position as a Chief Security Officer for a Fortune 500 company. With the educational degrees that I'm working towards at CTU, I feel my dreams can easily become a reality."
